Skinning is the preferred mode of uphill travel for most backcountry skiers. But sometimes steep or icy terrain calls for hiking. In these scenarios, we use our backpacks to carry skis and keep our hands free. Pro skier Drew Petersen teamed up with Salomon TV and Switchback Entertainment to demonstrate the diagonal and A-frame ski-carry techniques.
