It sounds like an oxymoron: Olympic skateboarding. An activity that has long been a byword for youthful rebellion will be making its five-ring debut this year. In the women’s street event, which takes place on Monday, July 26, in the Ariake Urban Sports Park. Mariah Duran, the 24-year-old from Albuquerque, New Mexico, is the United States’ number one ranked female in the discipline, with a repertoire that includes the difficult-to-master hardflip down a set of stairs.
