What do you think of the SylvanSport Go trailer?
I?ve never liked camping trailers but saw the SylvanSport Go and thought it looked pretty good. My wife and I camp with a couple of large dogs and thought this might be the ticket. Do you have any experience with this trailer or this company? Jay Dana Point, CA

Nope, no direct experience. But lots of camping experience, both car and backpack, and this thing speaks to me. Its…beautiful.
The GoBasically, you have a tent on a cart. It weighs about 800 pounds, costs about $7,000, and is light enough to be pulled behind most any vehicle. But mind you, it is an elaborate tent, not really a roll-along home.” Room for you and two big dogs? Well, yes. But not much more.
So, you might think about how to create an adjunct to your SylvanSport. I will assume that, like most people, you have trained your dogs to perfection (kidding, of courseask me about the two Gear Beagles). But you might think about a separate shelter for the hounds. I know I would. Just a nice shelter from wind and rain. Something such as an REI Half Dome. Big enough for two big dogs, very sturdy, and only $170. You pitch it next to your SylvanSport, leash out the dogs, all is good. Alas, I concede the result could be: Dogs in the camper, you in the tent. Or you in the tent with one dog, spouse in the camper with other dog.
But so what? Its all good. With a rig like this you are essentially an outdoors person. You build a campfire, spend time in the fresh air, cook outdoors, and its all great. You need two things to make it great. One is an Outback Oven ($80), a gadget that makes it possible to make anything from brownies to frittatas to pizzas. The other is a good tarp. Get an MSR Zing ($350), a roomy, outdoor tarp/shelter that creates an open-air, sheltered space outside the camper/tent.
