Once upon a time, the handle of a flashlight was used to either hold batteries or, if you’re Bobby Brady, hot dogs and baked beans. But thanks to the folks at VSSL Outdoor Utility Tools and improvements in LED technology, that tubular space can now be used to hold emergency supplies.

The VSSL Outdoor Utility Tool comes in four different models: Supplies, First Aid, Shelter, and Zombie. Based on which type you choose, you get different gear to stow in your flashlight’s handle. The Supplies kit contains a compass, one beeswax candle, a razor blade, six water purification tablets, a wire saw, waterproof matches, fishing gear, a fire starter, signaling mirror, Kevlar rope, reflective trail markers, a can opener, and first aid supplies. The Shelter model contains—you guessed it—a shelter, and the First Aid model includes everything you might need in an emegency, shy of an operating table.

And in case you were wondering: Yes, the Zombie kit comes with a high-tensile aluminum spike “because you can’t negotiate with the undead.”
