“It all happened here in Sun Valley.” At least that’s what Bobbie Burns says.

The Ski: 165cm. The Ski: 165cm.

In the 1960s, ski racer Burns was famous for running moguls at lightning speed. “Bobbie had a kamikaze style of skiing bumps; he skied as fast as he possibly could, shooting his skis forward as he sat back with his heels locked together and held his hands and poles high over his head,” according to Sun Valley magazine. “The poles were his only real form of control because, as he says, ‘All I needed was balance.'”

Burns starred in some of the first ski films produced by Sun Valley’s own Dick Barrymore, who called Burns the “first hot dogger” and described him as a “handlebar-mustached, steel-thighed skier attacking a field of moguls like Errol Flynn attacking a band of pirates … no one can ski like him.”

As Burns became one of skiing’s most flamboyant and extreme skiers, he also started producing his own skis, with a flagship model known simply as The Ski. Seen frequently on the freestyle circuit in the ’70s, The Ski also regularly graced the podium next to legends like Spider Sabich. The Ski, along with Scott boots and poles, became the ultimate hot dogger setup.

Now, in homage to Burns and Sun Valley, Scott is bringing back The Ski. Scott’s updated version uses 3Dimension Sidecut technology for a longer turn radius and stability, power, and precision. The front and rear allow versatility and improved turn initiation and a brand new elliptic sandwich sidewall construction gives The Ski torsional stiffness with precision and edge control. Thanks to a full-length wood core, Scott’s The Ski has a consistent flex and homogeneous transition from tip to tail. The result: a fun and playful set of planks that can handle varied conditions and terrain, and is fun everywhere on the mountain.
