We all know and love the Kanken. Designed originally for Scandanavian schoolchildren, Fjällräven’s most recognizable backpack has a simple, classic design that has won the hearts of outdoors folks and hipsters alike. The pack is so popular, in fact, it’s spawned a family of Kanken spinoffs: the Kanken Mini, the Kanken Laptop, the Kanken Big, the upcycled Re-Kanken, and the leather-detailed Kanken No. 2.
Today, the Swedish brand released the newest addition in honor of the 65th birthday of the Greenland jacket. (The first jacket Fjällräven ever made.) The new Kanken Greenland ($100) features the same classic design but in an updated G-1000 HeavyDuty Eco fabric, which is slightly thicker than the original Kanken. The fabric is also produced partially from recycled materials and is waterproofed without the use of perfluorocarbons. The webbing straps have striped detailing, which matches the detailing on the other items in the Greenland series. The Kanken may be a classic, but we’re sure this new version will be a welcome upgrade.
