Red Wing Weekender Chukka ($230)

The oil-tanned leather upper on this boot only looks better with time. We appreciated small but thoughtful details like tricolored stitching and two-tone laces. And the subdued color meant the Weekender was primed for pairing with colorfully patterned socks. But take our advice and order a half-size down to ensure a proper fit.

SeaVees Baja Slip-On Portal ($98)

Think of the Baja as a hipper version of a Croc, with an aerated nubuck upper that doesn’t scream fishing tournament. (Although, like its foam predecessor, it felt great against our bare feet.) We were definitely showing a lot of ankle but loved how dry and comfy it kept us.

Allbirds Wool Runner ($95)

Not quite as supportive as your go-to trainer, the Wool Runner gets the job done regardless during your morning jog and looks sharp in meetings at the office. All that wool helps cut down on stink, but in the rare case that it could use some freshening up, throw it in the washing machine.

Vans Perf Authentic Lite Rapidweld ($70)

This is an eighties classic made better. Instead of heavier canvas, this iteration of the Authentic comes with a light synthetic upper and a cushy sole. The barely visible perforations on the forefoot were a godsend on boiling days, while the feathery package practically disappeared on our feet like we were wearing nothing at all.

Blundstone Canvas ($120)

Pair the Canvas with khakis and linen for a true summertime look and you won’t care how hot it is outside. But it’s not just a pretty face: water-resistant treatment and rubber traction pads at the toe and heel handle rain with aplomb. Just be sure to air out the antibacterial sock liner after each day’s wear, lest funk set in.

Mohinders City Slipper ($145)

Although it resembles a Mexican huarache, the City Slipper is actually a heritage style from India. The braided and tanned water buffalo upper stays true to the original, but the goat-leather lining and natural rubber outsole deliver a much needed dose of modern comfort. Not long after we busted it out of the box, the City molded to our feet for a truly custom fit.
