Most toasty ski gloves feel like flippers. Dexterity is not their strong suit. Then there’s Arc’teryx’s Alpha SV. Yes, they’re ridiculously expensive—they cost more than some ski jackets—but they’re also the warmest and most adroit full-gauntlet gloves we’ve ever tested. Arc’teryx devised a way to laminate Gore-Tex’s best waterproof technology, ProShell, directly to the leather palm and nylon shell. There aren’t multiple layers of slippery fabric inside, just a superwarm and quick-wicking Polartec fleece liner. They also figured out a way to stitch it all together using barely-there seams—with none at all in the fingertips. You can literally pick up a dime. Which is why they cost so damn much—and work so damn well. $275; arcteryx.com
