Leadville Trail 100 to Adopt Entry Lottery

Entries to the 2015 edition of the Leadville Trail 100 Run will be given out through a lottery, according to a report by the Denver Post. The ultramarathon had operated on a first-come, first-served basis since 1983, when 45 runners started. Today, some 700 racers compete in the event.
Registering for the lottery will cost $15, a portion of which will be donated to a pair of nonprofits: the Leadville Legacy Foundation, which benefits the community the race is run in, and the Life Time Foundation, which focuses on school nutrition. Lottery winners will have to pay the $315 registration fee. The lottery opens December 1 and closes at 5 p.m. on December 31.
There are still ways to gain entry if you don’t score a spot in the lottery. The Leadville race organization is offering a three-day training camp that includes entry to the race with spots available on a first-come, first-served basis. Slots are also available to those raising money for charity, and fast runners can earn their start with their performance in the three other Leadville Race Series events.
