Tour de France winner Bradley Wiggins has been hospitalized after being struck by a car during a training ride in Eccleston, England, on Wednesday, and is said to have injured his ribs, hands, and wrist. Wiggins, the first Brit to win the Tour this past summer, is reported to have been hit by a van exiting a service station. “By the time I got there he had moved to a safer place but was still on the ground and he was in a lot of pain,” a nearby garage attendant told the Lancashire Evening Post. “He said he thought he had broken his ribs and while a lot of police cars arrived it was about 15 minutes before the ambulance got there by which time he was blue.” Team Sky has said that it will not issue a statement until Wiggins’ condition is better understood. The 32-year-old rider had a banner year, winning the Olympic time trial, the Critérium du Dauphiné, and the Tour de Romandie.
