Julia Duin has worked for six media outlets, mostly recently as Newsweek’s religion correspondent. She lives in the Seattle suburbs with her daughter, Olivia, and two cats named Juneteenth and Velocity. She’s written seven books, including In the House of the Serpent Handler, about young Appalachian pentecostals who take poisonous snakes to church.
