Opened in 1927, the Ahwahnee Hotel soon became as iconic as the natural wonders surrounding it. A recent trademark dispute prompted a change of the hotel’s name to the Majestic Yosemite, but all the stuff that made it legendary is still here.

Trailheads that lead to El Capitan and Mirror Lake are minutes from the front door, the staff will set up climbing instruction with the world-class Yosemite Mountaineering School, and the dining room has floor-to-ceiling views of Glacier Point. 

A 2010 renovation spruced things up a bit, but don’t worry: the boysenberry pie—on the menu for more than 50 years—will always remain. From $426.
