The glacier-fed Skjálfandafljót River flows through the Mývatn district of northern Iceland. Its Godafoss waterfall is among the most popular sites in the country.

During a trip around Iceland in March—primarily to photograph surfing—I stopped at the falls and was totally mesmerized. I stood there in silence for what felt like an eternity, just appreciating my surroundings and the way the turquoise and gold light harmonized in the midst of the harsh, white winter.
